Crying Over Spilt Milk - Fringe World fundraiser
Here at WHWS, a topic close to our hearts (and breasts!) is mothering – it’s not quite like the instruction book said it would be!

So when we looked at the FRINGE WORLD programme and saw Crying Over a Spilt Milk, a show by Darwin comedian Amy Hetherington about the joy, pain and madness of parenting – we thought “Let’s go and support a sister!”
The show is an hour of comedy about sleep deprivation, weird advice from strangers, sore nipples, crying over spilt milk and the other trials of parenting. This show for new parents, would-be parents and never-would-I-ever parents. You can see why we thought it was perfect for us to see, right? And for the icing on the cake, half of Amy’s family live in Gosnells!

And Amy is kindly supporting the Gosnells community back with this show and has set aside some tickets for us for her 5 February show, with part proceeds being a fundraiser for WHWS. Thank you so much, Amy!
So clear your diaries for 4pm on Saturday, 5 February to head to Kalamunda. It’s a nice early show so you don’t have to worry too much about late nights or babysitters. In fact, Amy isn’t worrying about a babysitter either and she’ll have her newly minted Plus1 with her on stage. Tickets are $25 (inc booking fees).

And if you can’t make it on this date then the rest of the run of this show will be in Perth city in Yagan Square at The Laugh Resort & Shoe Bar.

HELPING OUR CHILDREN MANAGE BIG FEELINGS
Children develop self-regulation through warm and responsive relationships. They also develop it by watching the adults around them. Emotional regulation is not a skill we are born with. When our children display big feelings, it can feel overwhelming for the adults in their lives. Helping our children learn to self-regulate is an important but at times tricky task. This workshop will examine how emotional self-regulation develops and how we can help our children acquire this crucial skill.

DAD CHATS - INFO SESSION
Dad Chats is a 6 session program to explore the many parts of being a Dad, and the many ways being a Dad can look. The program covers (in every session) topics around communication, boundary setting, and self-discovery/exploration. It is run by two experienced facilitators, however the greatest learning comes from the interactions between the dads themselves.
Dad Chats starts with a general session thinking about our own experience of fathers, and then through future sessions begins looking at the many ways a Dad can be involved in the family; from being a dad with a newborn, through FIFO and work, blended families, foster dads, and parenting from separate homes.
Topics also include how to try best to communicate with your partner, and also a whole session on overall family (including your extended family!).
Dads are encouraged to attend this first session, and then sign up for either some or all of the following sessions depending on need/area of interest. Each topic will be independent, however you could sign up for all 6 as there will be features from each session that are applicable to everyone (like a living version of Voltron!!)”

“Helena went to all the ante-natal classes she was offered.
She wrote lots of lists. There was nothing she did not know about giving birth. In the event, she was heavily sedated and missed most of it.
There are no classes at all about what to do next.” ¬ Hazeley & Morris, 2017
